Chalabi, Bahraini opposition leader discuss Bahrain's status quo

Baghdad (NINA) – Head of the Iraqi National Conference, Ahmed Chalabi, discussed at his office in Baghdad the recent developments on the Bahraini arena with the Bahraini opposition leader, Abdul Raouf Al Shayeb, a statement issued by Chalabi's office mentioned Sunday.

The statement added that "the meeting was present by Maitham Al Jamry, Bahraini activist and opposition, and a number of INC leaders."

Chalabi expressed hope that "the Bahraini authorities would resort to dialogue and abandon violence in dealing with the peaceful demands of the Bahraini people."

He added that Iraq should live up to its leading role in the region and support the Arab liberal movements as it was the first Arab country that was liberated from dictatorship and held a democratic regime.

For his part, Abdul Raouf Al Shayeb, head of the Khalas opposition Movement, expressed thanks to the Iraqi people's stance supportive to the Bahraini people.

He appreciated the suspension of the Iraqi parliament sessions in denunciation of the foreign forces entering Bahrain and the human rights violations conducted by these forces.
