Japanese tourists offered to stay longer in Thailand

BANGKOK, March 26 (TNA) - Thailand is considering extending the length of stay for Japanese tourists in the Kingdom under a visa exemption programme, from 30 to 60 days, probably starting from April 1, 2011.
The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports has submitted the proposal to the Thai Cabinet for further consideration with a final approval expected soon. The ministry reasoned that the move should be a goodwill gesture for Japanese visitors to the Kingdom, as Thailand and Japan have enjoyed sound bilateral diplomatic relations for more than 100 years.
The Thai government has promoted long-stay visits to Thailand among Japanese travellers and had received positive response from tour operators. It is expected that the number of long-stay Japanese visitors to Thailand this year will exceed a 15,000 benchmark recorded in 2007. (TNA)
