A new general election will definitely be held, says Thai PM

BANGKOK, March 26 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva says that he believes a new general election will definitely be held in Thailand later this year.

Abhisit insisted that he had not seen any condition which would block the upcoming general election, noting that there should not be any obstacle to the promulgation of three amended electoral laws, as authorities concerned had confirmed that the scrutiny of the three draft laws would take only some 7-10 days--after which they would go for their second and third readings in the House of Representatives. Therefore, Abhisit said, he had not seen any problem with the passage of the three new electoral laws.

The Thai premier asserted that his government has never exerted any pressure on the Election Commission (EC) and has never used the military as a tool to form his government or facilitate his vote campaigns as the opposition has accused. (TNA)
