EU increases quotas for duty-free import of Moldovan wines
CHISINAU, March 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The European Union has increased the
quotas for the duty-free import of Moldovan wine and grain, Moldovan Prime
Minister Vlad Filat told a news conference, commenting on his visit to
Brussels.
He said it was "a welcome and very important decision" for Moldovan
producers, especially when they were faced with difficulties in
traditional markets. This year the duty-free quota on wine exports is
increased by 50 percent to 15 million liters, and next year it will go up
to 18 million, however, it is a tiny faction of what the republic exports
to Russia.
In order to support Moldova the EU plans to continue to create a deep
and comprehensive free trade area (DCFTA). As Filat said, in Brussels he
had presented an overview of the achievements in implementing the key
recommendations. The prime minister hopes that as early as May Moldova
will be able to discuss a timetable of negotiations on this issue. In
general, Filat assured that "during the meetings with senior officials in
the EU he received a clear signal of continued support for the reforms
initiated by the government of Moldova."
