Whincup wins V8 opening race
SYDNEY, March 25 (AAP)- Championship leader Jamie Whincup has won the opening V8 Supercar race at the Australian Grand Prix meet.
Whincup led from start to finish and comfortably beat fellow Holden driver Garth Tander and Ford's Shane van Gisbergen in Friday evening's 25-lap race at Albert Park.
There are no championship points on offer for the weekend's three exhibition races.
Holden driver Jason Richards' inspiring part-time driving comeback as he battles cancer continued.
He finished seventh after running as high as second during the race.
Race two will be held on Saturday and race three is scheduled for Sunday.
