Japanese death toll exceeds 10 thousand
TOKYO, March 25 (Itar-Tass) -- The number of killed and missing in
Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami exceeded 27 thousand people,
national police said on Friday.
It estimated the death toll at over 10 thousand people, while the
number of missing comprised 17,541. The number of injured was estimated at
2779.
Local authorities said over 18 thousand buildings were ruined in the
calamity zone, including over 5 thousand residential houses.
Close to 250 thousand residents of northeastern Japan remain in
temporary accommodations.
The damage is estimated as high as 308 billion dollars.
