UES network co to lay 2-km power cable on Russkiy isle

MOSCOW, March 24 (Itar-Tass) - The Federal network company of the
Unified Energy Sustem has begun to lay a subterranean power cable on the
Russkiy (Russian) Island in the Primorsky (maritime) Territory.
The cable will be part of a 220-kilovolt power transmission line which
is to run from the continental part of Vladivostok to supply electricity
to the island's users, such as the facilities intended for for the 2012
summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, Far Eastern
Federal University, an oceanarium, the Far Eastern branch of the Russian
Academy of Sciences, as well as the island's population, the company's
announcement said.
The 16.8-km-long power transmission line will link 220-kilovolt
substations that are being built on the continental part of the city --
Zelyony Ugol (green corner) and Patrocles -- with the Russiaya substation
on the island.
With due regard for the urban development of the continental and
island territory of the city, the power line will transmit electricity via
cable with an aerial section. The continental part of the city will be
linked with the island by a power cable laid across the bed of the
Bosporus East Strait.
As of now the first 75 metres of cable have been laid into
reinforced-concrete troughs on the Russkiy Island. All in all, two
kilometres of cable are to be laid on the island, to run from the cable
terminal located in the littoral zone to the building Russkaya substation,
PRIME-TASS points out.
