Pakistani PM Gilani in Tashkent for talks to develop trade, economic ties

Tashkent, March 24, 2011 (PPI): Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani arrived here Thursday on two-day official visit to Uzbekistan for talks with his counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev focusing on development of trade, economic ties and situation in Afghanistan, Trend news agency reported.

He will also meet Speaker of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis Dilorom Tashmuhamedova and other officials. Uzbek President Islam Karimov is expected to receive Gilani whose trip to Samarkand is scheduled for Friday.

According to Uzbek official statistics, volume of Uzbek-Pakistan trade turnover totalled $40.1 million in year 2010. About 60 joint ventures have been established with Pakistani investors in Uzbekistan. Representative offices of 10 Pakistani companies have been opened.
