DISCUSSION HELD ON NAT'L SECURITY AND MEDIA
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Civil Hall at the Presidential Office hosted Thursday a discussion themed “National security and media”. Co-organized by the Presidential Office and the parliamentary Standing committee on security and foreign policy, the action has brought together Ya.Batsuuri, head of the Standing committee, Z.Enkhbold and R.Amarjargal MPs, authorities of media organizations, and officials of “Globe International” NGO.
Opening the discussion, the head of the Presidential Office D.Battulga has given a speech. He has said that a matter of security has become a wide-range issue, adding an ensuring of the security is not full without a civil participation. He has said the new concept of the security states that security ensuring is based on collaboration between the state and citizens.
He has emphasized an importance of cooperation among the state, citizens and media organizations in providing the people with objective and balanced information, developing responsible and qualified journalism, which perishes the national interests, and in forming the social journalism.
The Standing committee's head Ya.Batsuuri and advisor to the President on national security policy M.Batchimeg have introduced the gathered to basic content and feature of the concept of national security of Mongolia which was approved last year, and its connection with issues of security in media.
Some of the media people have asked to give them definite guidelines for maintaining the concept of national security, others have expressed a position just to obey the laws.
“There is no such an understanding that the journalists deliberately issue the news that cause a threat to the national security. Media organizations must have own editorial policy and be responsible, skilled, experienced and ethical,” a delegate of the “Globe International” NGO has stressed.
The concept of national security states that basis of ensuring of the national security is to protect national interests and to strengthen secrecy and adequacy for information of the state, citizens and private sector.
