Foreign investors still have confidence in Indonesia, despite earthquake risks
BANGKOK, March 24 (TNA) - Ahmad Kurniadi, deputy chairman of the Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board, who is currently facilitating a trip of Thai investors to boost investment relations, said that although Indonesia stood on the Ring of Fire fault line - and, like Japan, is prone to earthquakes - the amount of foreign investment was continuing to smoothly increase. He also added that Indonesia was improving its promotional privileges to attract investors.
Nancy Martasuta, vice chair of the Thai-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce, said that the forestry and mineral resource authorities of Indonesia would inform investors of areas prone to natural disasters and would not permit investment in such areas. Most investment projects take place on Sumatra and Kalimantan islands, she explained.
Large-scale Thai companies that invest in Indonesia include Banpu Plc in coal mining, Charoen Pokphand Group in food production and Siam Cement Group in the production of construction materials. (TNA)
