Van Gisbergen fastest in V8 qualifying

(AAP) March 24 - Young New Zealander Shane Van Gisbergen snatched fastest time in the dying seconds of V8 Supercar qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix meeting on Thursday.
The Ford driver took pole when he unseated Holden's Craig Lowndes with a lap of 1 minute 57.18 seconds.
He was five-tenths of a second quicker than Lowndes, with Ford Performance Racing's Will Davison third.
Van Gisbergen said everything "all lined up" on his final hot lap.
"I wish it was a championship round although it was a pretty good feeling," he said.
Jamie Whincup leads the series by 144 points from Mark Winterbottom.
