Qatar University to Launch Gulf Studies Program
Doha, March 22 (QNA) - Qatar University (QU) is preparing to launch the first-ever Gulf Studies Program in Qatar and the region, and the second such program in the world.
This undergraduate degree program will be offered at the organization s International Affairs Department (IAD) and is scheduled to begin in Fall 2011.
It will provide students with an interdisciplinary understanding of various social, historical, economic, and political developments that shape the Gulf States, their inter-connection between each other s communities, and their place within the global community.
Commenting on the forthcoming addition to the organization s programs and courses, QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al-Misnad said: "This is the most timely moment for a program of this nature. The countries and peoples of the Gulf are increasingly playing a significant role in the ongoing changes being wrought throughout the region and the wider Arab world. We at Qatar University are proud to bring this important program to our current and prospective students and the Qatari community. This is our clear demonstration of commitment to being part of the dialogue on issues at home, regionally, and abroad".
IAD Chair Dr Steven Wright said: "This program is designed to be the most comprehensive and high-quality academic program globally for academic examination on the Gulf region. It has been created with the 2030 National Vision of the State of Qatar in mind and we will be offering a wide range of interdisciplinary and relevant courses on area of importance. Courses will be offered on issues relating to heritage, society, politics, economics, media, international relations, and the energy industry of the Gulf States. It allows for an in-depth understanding of what is a highly dynamic region and also contributes to the discussions on the future development of the Gulf region". (QNA)
