Opposition in Pakistani Parliament Boycott Zerdari's Address At the Parliament
ISLAMABAD, March 22, 2011 (PPI): President Asif Ali Zardari become the first democratically elected head of the State in history of the country after addressing the joint sitting of the Parliament Tuesday for the consecutive fourth time on the advent of new parliamentary year.
Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza was chairing the joint session of Parliament.
As the President started his address to the parliament, the members of Muslim League (Nawaz), JUI-F and Jamat Islami staged walk out of the parliament session.
It was the first time in Pakistan when an elected president addressed the same assembly for the fourth time.
Opposition parties are said to be walked out the Presidential address due to inflation, worsening law and order situation, drone attacks, gas and electricity load shedding and the release of Raymond Davis.
The Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q) was not attending the session.
Before the address began, the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) issued a so-called fact-sheet criticising President Zardari and the Pakistan People’s Party-led coalition government.
The president’s three previous addresses to the joint session of parliament went smoothly as the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was in good terms with other political parties. Between the third and fourth session of the parliament, the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal left the government, the Muttahida Quami Movement quit the cabinet and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ended its alliance with the PPP in Punjab.
