Lower staff’s token hunger strike continues

KARACHI, March 22, 2011 (PPI): Lower contract staffers of Sindh Education Department vowed to continue their token hunger strike outside Karachi Press Club (KPC) till their demands are met. The lower staff’s token hunger strike outside the KPC entered seventh day on Tuesday. More than 100 staffers including watchmen, peons and gardeners observed hunger strike to protest non-regularization of their contract jobs.

President All Sindh Education Department Lower Staff Association (ASEDLS) Darya Khan Jamali told PPI that their arrested colleagues were released on bail. The release activists include Khadim Brohi, Roshan Ali, Rehmatullah, Ali Madad, Uzair, Liaquat Bhutto, Hidayatullah, Ghulam Rasool, Aijaz Ali, Abdul Majeed, Ghulam Rasool Siyal, Zulfiqar Ali, Rab Dino, Ghulam Nabi Leghari, Mohammad Din, Ghulam Qadir Bhatti and Ghulam Akbar Chandio. They had been arrested by the police when they tried to march toward the CM House from KPC on Monday. Jamali urged the government to regularize their jobs and restore son quota for them, besides giving them salary timescale. Darya Khan appealed Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo moto notice of the matter.
