Kyrgyzstan hopes Russia will lift export duty on kerosene

MOSCOW, March 22 (Itar-Tass) - Kyrgyz Prime Minister Almazbek
Atambayev hopes that Russia will lift the export duty on aviation kerosene delivered to Kyrgyzstan. He spoke about it in an interview with Russia Today TV Channel.
The old scheme of the deliveries of Russian aviation kerosene to the Manas air base, where troops of the international anti-Taliban coalition are deployed, "was a source of enrichment for the families of both presidents (Akayev and Bakiyev)," Atambayev said. "The family of President Askar Akayev took part in the first scheme, and the family of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev took part in the second. His son Maxim Bakiyev directly participated in it. Open re-export of Russian aviation kerosene was going on. This is why it was quite natural and absolutely legal for Russia to impose export duties on all the fuel and lubricants delivered to Kyrgyzstan, starting from April 1, 2010."
"This cost us some 200 million dollars," he continued. "We promised last year to destroy the scheme and to stop the re-export of Russian aviation kerosene. We attained that goal by creating a joint enterprise by Kyrgyzstan and Russian Gazprom. Now it will account for 50 per cent of aviation kerosene deliveries."
"The most important thing is that the re-export has been stopped. I hope the export duty will be lifted," Atambayev said.
