Govt’s top priority to provide state of art healthcare facilities to labourers: Minister
LAHORE, March 21, 2011 (PPI): Punjab Labour Minister Syed Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi has said that government is giving top priority to the provision of state of the art healthcare facilities to the labourers. He said that the main objective of the labour department is to provide free of cost comprehensive healthcare facilities to the workers and their family members. He said that during the last financial years more than 6,005,265 workers were provided healthcare facilities at a cost of 3,387 million rupees.
While talking to worker’s delegations, Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi said that latest treatment facilities to the workers / family members are being provided even chronic and fatal diseases. He told that currently, patients suffering from hepatitis-C are being treated with conventional interferon procedure but with a view to facilitate the patients more accurately the labour department has decided to make arrangements for provision of Pegylated interferon which would cost Rs. 3,12,000 per patient. He said that two mammography machines worth Rs. 6.871 million have been installed in social security hospitals at Lahore and Islamabad for the better detection of breast cancer patients, whereas, a new CT Scan Machine has been installed at Lahore with a cost of Rs.69.180 million.
He said that in order to overcome the shortcoming of the doctors two medical colleges each at Lahore and Faisalabad would be launched by the labour department to make up shortage of doctors and for the provision of standardized facilities, besides, 50 percent seats would be reserved for the children of labourers, expenditure of which would also be meet by labour department.
He said that in order to provide specialized treatment/diagnostic facilities near to the workplace of labourers, the Labour Department has established satellite clinics at Phoolnagar, Jaranwala, Hasan Abdal etc whereas, more than 550 specialist doctors have been recruited by the Punjab government to provide better treatment facilities to the majority of the masses in the province
