India denounces armed operation against Libya

NEW DELHI, March 22 (Itar-Tass) -- India denounced on Tuesday the
Odyssey Dawn combat operation, staged by the international coalition in
Libya. "The developments in a country are its domestic affair, and no
foreign country should interfere in them," Indian Finance Minister Pranab
Mukherjee said in his report before the lower chamber of the Indian
parliament. "No one, not even several countries, can make a decision on
the changing of the ruling regime in this or that country. The changing or
not changing of the regime depends on the people of that country, and not
on some forces abroad."
Indian Foreign Minister Somanhalli Mallaiah Krishna urged on Monday to
stop air strikes at Libya. "The attacks may do damage to the civilian
population, to foreign nationals and diplomatic missions situated in
Libya," he said. "We regret air strikes dealt at Libya. India urges all
the conflicting parties to give up violence. The armed conflict must be
stopped immediately," he stressed.
Previously the Indian Foreign Ministry expressed "profound concern
over the continuing violence, confrontation and the worsening of the
humanitarian situation in Libya." It urged "to settle all differences by
peaceful means with the help of a dialogue, in which the U.N. and the
regional organisations should play their role : The measures taken should
improve, and not worsen, the difficult situation in which the Libyan
people found themselves."
