PM, government units ink deal on anti-corruption

BANGKOK, March 22 (TNA) - The Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva has secured a deal with government units working on anti-corruption and the transparent procurement of public projects.

Nineteen government units signed the agreement with the Thai premier at Government House in Bangkok Tuesday morning, stipulating that they will steer their agencies ahead with a strict anti-graft spirit, always maintaining transparency in their procurement projects.

When presiding over the signing of the deal, Abhisit said that his government has accelerated anti-graft efforts, by cooperating with both the local public and private sectors, to boost Thailand's competitiveness.

The Thai Democrat premier affirmed that the Thai government will continue to crack down on corruption across the board, including in annual reshuffle processes of various agencies. He did add however, that Thailand's rank on a world corruption survey improved in 2010. (TNA)
