Vladimir Yakunin becomes chairman of Franco-Russian Dialogue
PARIS, March 22 (Itar-Tass) - The president of Russian Railways,
Vladimir Yakunin, has become chairmen of the Franco-Russian Dialogue
Association. This was announced at the General Assembly of the
organization on Monday.
The ceremony took place at the Russian Embassy to Paris. The candidacy of Yakunin "received whole-hearted support both in Moscow and in Paris,"Prince Alexander Trubetskoy from Russian Disapora in France, stressed at the ceremony. "We pin great hopes" on your chairmanship, he said, adding that Yakunin's "experience will help to visibly increase the pace of the development of bilateral relations".
"This is a unique organization. It was set up at the initiative of the presidents of France and Russia, but it retains a non-governmental status," Yakunin told Tass. "It brings together experts from different sectors - from economy to science and education," he stressed.
The list of members of the association speaks for itself, as it
includes representatives from such companies as Total, Thales, Vinci,
Arianespace, Russia's Sukhoi, Transmashholding, Energia, Wimm-Bill-Dann. The association will keep expanding, Yakunin said.
As head of Russian Railways, Yakunin said at the ceremony that Russian railway specialists intend to launch a new passenger train that will connect Moscow, Berlin and Paris. He reminded the audience that starting from September 2010, trains have been travelling on a regular basis between Moscow and Nice. "The demand is high, reaching 90 percent at peak seasons," he stressed.
Helene Carrere d'Encausse, Secretary of the French Academy, expressed the opinion that the association must pay more attention to the young generation. "It was owing to the youth that French-German cooperation developed in its time. Possibly this experience should be used in relations with Russia as well," she said. With that in view, Helene Carrere d'Encausse offers to set up a French-Russian youth forum.
