Tikahito Harada appointed new Japan's ambassador to Russia

TOKYO, March 22 (Itar-Tass) - Tikahito Harada, an experienced diplomat and professional specialist in Russian philology, was on Tuesday appointed new ambassador to Russia. The decision was officially approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
Prior to the new appointment, Harada was ambassador to the Czech
Republic. Harada, 59, graduated from Tokyo University as many
representatives of Japan's elite. He began working at the Japanese Foreign Ministry in 1974, heading at different moments the ministry's Russian and European bureaus.
Former Ambassador to Russia Masaharu Kono is blamed for
miscalculations in relations with Moscow. In particular, he was accused of bad work on collecting information, first of all in connection with a visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to the South Kuril Islands last November.
This visit chilled relations between Moscow and Tokyo for some time, while Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara were sharply criticized in media and in parliament for mistakes in foreign policy.
Initially, plans were to appoint the new ambassador back in January, but then it was decided to postpone that appointment not to make it look too demonstrative.
