Thailand Post sends relief supplies to Japan

BANGKOK, March 21 (TNA) - Thailand Post has announced joining efforts to transport relief supplies to Japan, in a move to support communities devastated by the massive earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

Anusara Chittmittrapap as Thailand Post president, confirmed Monday morning that supplies including sweaters, blankets, preserved food and medication, will be transferred from the Thai Foreign Ministry to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport, from where THAI Airways International, the national flag carrier, has already agreed to deliver 2 tonnes per day to Japan.

She said donation boxes are also being held at post offices around the country, with special postal services now available to all members of the public wishing to contribute.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry Permanent-Secretary Theerakul Niyom has said about 50 tonnes of relief supplies from the public, including some 20 million baht in monetary donations, are among those being transferred from his ministry, adding that contributions on blankets, flashlights and water containers, are now critical for Japan.
