South Korean Incheon to develop exchanges with Moscow, Petersburg

20/3 Tass 103

SEOUL, March 20 (Itar-Tass) - A delegation of the South Korean city of Incheon, led by Mayor Song Young-gil, will sign several agreements on the development of cooperation and exchanges in the sphere of culture, higher education, museum work and other spheres during its visit to St.
Petersburg and Moscow between March 20 and 26.
For instance the sides will sign documents on opening branches of St. Petersburg and Moscow State Universities at Incheon University as well as on exchanging relics with the St. Petersburg Naval Museum.
"The planned signing of documents opens a new chapter in relations
between the city of Incheon and Russia. This is an important time which for us is of the same importance, as Russian Tsar Peter the Great opened in Petersburg a window to Europe, which ensured great development for the state. Incheon is also an important city in the North East Asian region,"
the mayor noted in an interview with Itar-Tass.
"The coming visit is very important for us from the viewpoint of
active development of youth exchanges, of the importance of which said
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev during his visit to Seoul last
November," emphasised Song Young-gil.
He also pointed to the great role in the development of relations
between peoples of the two countries, which will be played by an exchange of relics between the two countries, including the pennant of the Varyag cruiser and documents on activities of fighters for independence and liberation of Korea.
A Russian monument, dedicated to the feat of Russian sailors from the Varyag cruiser and the Koreyets gunboat, the only one in South Korea, was built precisely in this port city.
