Former judge Marcus Einfeld walks free
Former Federal Court judge Marcus Einfeld says he plans to return to his public work, after he was released from prison on parole.
In 2009, Einfeld was sentenced to three years' jail, with a non-parole period of two years, after pleading guilty to false statements over a $77 driving fine.
He admitted he had lied in court when he claimed the driver of his speeding car was a woman, who later turned our to be dead.
"Subject to recovering my health I propose to return to my public work to which I have devoted so much of my life," he told reporters after he was released from Sydney's Silverwater jail on Saturday morning.
He said he would dedicate himself to "serious prison reform" and the problems of mental health and depression affecting prisoners, particularly males.
The former Queen's Counsel, a title that was stripped from him in 2008, thanked his family and friends for their support during what he described as "the worst period of my life".
