SET foundation hands donations to disaster-hit Japan

BANGKOK, March 19 (TNA) - The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation has donated 10 million yen or about 3.84 million baht to Japan, in a move to join individuals and public and private agencies in the Thai society to convey their sympathy to affected people in the disaster-stricken Asian neighbour.

Sompol Kiartpaibool, chairman of the SET board and chief of the SET Foundation, has handed the donation through the Japanese Embassy in Bangkok to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

The assistance represents long-standing partnership between the Thai bourse and the Tokyo Stock Exchange, as Japan has long been an allied nation of Thailand and both Bangkok and Tokyo have cooperated well with each other in cultural, social and economic aspects.

Donations from Thailand for disaster victims in Japan have been rising since a massive earthquake, with a devastating tsunami and radiation leaks, hit Japan's northeastern region on March 11. (TNA)
