Kyrgyzstan's ex-president to face trial on March 23

BISHKEK, March 19 (Itar-Tass) -- Kyrgyzstan's former President
Kurmanbek Bakiyev, some of his relatives and allies will face the court again on 23 March, Judged Damir Onolbekov said on Friday.
The court session on Friday, has demonstrated the atmosphere of
confrontation between the defendants and relatives of the victims.
"At one point we feared they may start a fight again, but the police managed to nip it in the bud," an eyewitness said. In the end of the session relatives of the victims whistled at the judge as he decided not to arrest several defendants.
The court session last December was terminated as an explosive device went off near the building. There were no fatalities, but two police were wounded, but for security reasons the session was postponed.
This time, the authorities provide extra security measures. Only those who have special passes may enter the hall, while the media watches the trial on-line.
Kyrgyzstan's former president, who ran away from the country to Minsk after the mass clashes. He is accused of involvement in shooting of a peaceful demonstration on April 7, where about 90 died and hundreds were wounded. Prosecutors say that 27 former officials and relatives of the ex-president are involved in the bloodshed, though may of them have left the country.
