Trade cooperation with Azerbaijan should grow - Khloponin
MOSCOW, March 19 (Itar-Tass) -- The potential of trade cooperation
with Azerbaijan should grow, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister and
presidential envoy in the North Caucasus Federal District Alexander
Khloponin told the bilateral intergovernmental commission on economic
development on Friday.
"Moscow and Baku cooperate successfully in transport, the
trade-economic complex, space, science and technologies, "and yet the
potential is much higher, than it is today," he said stressing the
strategic importance of partnership in energy.
Azerbaijan's First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyubov called for using "new opportunities."
"Russia is Azerbaijan's main trade partner, and a dialogue with
Russian counterparts is a priority for us," he said. There are no problems in relations between the two countries, which may not be settled. He pointed to frequent bilateral contacts, including summits.
Eyubov commented on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and thanked Russia for its mediation.
"We appreciate Russia's role," he said. "Positive changes in the
settlement are evident."
The Russia-Azerbaijan trade turnover in 2010 made two billion dollars, which is higher than over the previous year, thus it approaches gradually the pre-crisis level. Another meeting of the intergovernmental commission is due in 2012 in Baku.
