Thai government is ready to help Japan in all possible ways

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva received donations for disaster victims in Japan from the Thai private sector on Friday, confirming that his government has been doing its best to assist both Thai and Japanese disaster victims.
Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, donated 4.8 tons of drinking water and 5,000 blankets and cut its fares between Japan and Thailand to 16,000 baht for each passenger. Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group donated 25 tons of cooked chicken worth 5 million baht and Thai Union Frozen Products (TUFP) donated 200,000 cans of tuna worth 7 million baht.
The Thai prime minister acknowledged that his Cabinet had also resolved to deliver 15,000 tons of rice and glutinous rice to help Japan, and that the Thai government would, among other assistance, deploy Thai relief workers to Japan right away if notified by Japanese authorities.
The Thai leader said his government has been coordinating help with relevant organizations in the wake of a massive earthquake, with tsunami and radiation leaks, which ravaged Japan's northeastern region on March 11, including temporary shelters for victims, use of a Thai temple close to a Japanese airport to gather donations from Thailand for victims and coordination with local shops in Japan to quickly deliver necessities to affected areas.
Regarding safety concerns over the radioactive leaks, Abhisit insisted that Thailand is implementing relevant measures, including strict examinations of food and people from Japan and regular detections of airborne radioactivity. (TNA)
