TOKYO, March 18 (Itar-Tass) - A bus of the Russian General Consulate evacuated 14 Russian women and children from the Japanese city of Sendai, which was heavily damaged in the tsunami, on Friday. An EMERCOM bus evacuated Russian sailors from the Khrizolitovy refrigerator ship, which the tsunami cast ashore at the destroyed Japanese port Ofunato, an official of the Russian General Consulate in Niigata Roman Kolesnik told Itar-Tass on Friday.
About 35 Russian citizens were reported staying in Sendai, he said.
The contacts with them were maintained by mobile phones and by the
announcements in the cafe, where Russian citizens meet. Fourteen Russian women and children said they want to leave the city.
The tsunami cast ashore the Khrizolitovy refrigerator ship at the
Ofunato port that was strongly damaged on March 11. The refrigerator crew consisted of 15 sailors, including Vitaly Lysov, who broke down his leg.
The Japanese rescuers evacuated all of them from the ship to the shore and the injured sailor was hospitalized. The Grif rescue ship was
dispatched for the Russian sailors in trouble from Vladivostok. However,
the rescue ship failed to enter the Ofunato harbour over the trees, metal pieces and even the roofs of the houses destroyed in the tsunami floating or sunken there.
