Security Council athorizes no-fly zone for Libya
UNITED NATIONS (Itar-Tass) - The U.N. Security Council
voted on Thursday to authorize a no-fly zone over Libya and "all necessary
measures" to protect civilians against attacks by the armed forces loyal
to Muammar Gaddafi.
The resolution also freezes the assets of the Libyan National Oil
Corporation and the Central Bank and calls for an immediate ceasefire and
an end to violence against civilians.
Ten of the council's 15 member states voted for the resolution
co-sponsored by France, Britain, Lebanon and the United States. Russia,
China and Germany were among those who abstained.
