Azerbaijan, Baku, March 17 (Trend)- Azerbaijan informs the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) about the risk of making civilian flights over the territories of the Azerbaijani Republic occupied by Armenia.
"The Azerbaijani side once again informs ICAO, as well as all international organizations about the risk of making civilian flights over the territories occupied by Armenia and the opportunity of committing acts of provocation in this area," employee of the press-center of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev told Trend. It is a zone of military conflict. It is temporarily outside the control of the Azerbaijani authorities."
"Azerbaijan has repeatedly informed at various levels about the inadmissibility of making flights over the occupied territories of Azerbaijan without a permission of state authorities of the Azerbaijani Republic," he said.
The diplomat said that there were incidents in the past. It resulted in human victims. The Armenian side brought down a helicopter near the village of Garakend village in Khojavend region of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia on Nov. 20, 1991.
The members of the Azerbaijani government and peacekeepers from Russia and Kazakhstan were on board. The Armenian armed forces brought down an Iranian aircraft on March 17, 1994. It once again confirms the danger of making flights over these territories.
It is necessary for the Armenian side to withdraw its troops from these territories to ensure the safety of the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. This is the only way. It would avoid similar incidents, he said.
