Medvedev expects coming year to be devoid of cataclysms

GORKY, March 17 (Itar-Tass) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev
expects that the coming year will be auspicious to the Russian Federation
and Kazakhstan and will be devoid of cataclysms.
"I hope that this year will be auspicious to our countries and our
peoples and that weather conditions will favour harvesting. In spite of
what has happened in Japan, I also hope that there will be no such serious
problems and cataclysms," he said during a meeting with President
Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan here on Thursday. "Japan is
experiencing a colossal national calamity," Medvedev emphasized.
"Relations that bring Russia and Kazakhstan together are long-lasting
and stable. At least ten meetings of ours have been planned out for this
year alone, in both bilateral and multilateral formats," the RF President
pointed out.
Medvedev believes that the Russian and Kazakhstani sides "can be
pleased with the results of last year's work, primarily with the
establishment of a Customs Union and with the opening up of a road to the
founding of a Eurasian Economic Union". He is confident that "This is a
qualitative stride ahead in the cause of integration."
"It is obvious that this year will be also full of such events,"
Medvedev maintains. The Russian Head of State said, "We have been dealing
with integration not just for establishing as many contacts as possible:
integration is a way to raise the quality of living of our citizens. It is
along the lines of integration only that we furnish a basis for a
successful life for the future."
At the same time Medvedev acknowledged that " a large amount of work
is yet to be done". He suggested discussing these matters with Nazarbayev.
"It must be admitted that these processes have acquired a very steady
dynamism in the past several years: you have always been a supporter of
integration and close cooperation and have been consistently upholding
this position. Over the past several years we have made a qualitative
stride ahead in this respect," Medvedev remarked.
