India to continue improving relations with Russia-FM

NEW DELHI, March 17 (Itar-Tass) - India will continue improving
relations with Russia, said in parliament Indian Foreign Minister
Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna.
"The development of Indian-Russian relations as well as relations with
China, the US and other states shows that India is not on the sidelines of
world politics and takes an active stance on the main events in the world,
including the present developments in the Middle East," the foreign
minister said, as quoted by the Hindu newspaper on Thursday.
Speaking of relations with China, the minister expressed concern over
granting special entry visas by China to residents of the Jammu and
Kashmir states, which shows Beijing's non-recognition of India's
sovereignty over this region. "We hope that China will settle this problem
and meet thereby the interests of the Indian side," Krishna said.
According to the minister, "India translates into life modernisation
of transport infrastructure on the border with China in compliance with
its strategic interests".
The minister noted that India favours continuation of the dialogue
with Islamabad so as to lessen mutual distrust and to settle all
existing problems in bilateral relations on the basis of openness in order
"to ensure better future for the peoples of the two states".
At the same time, India will never abandon the struggle against
international terrorism and will work to put an end to attacks of
terrorist and extremist groups, "rendering negative influence on the
situation in India and its relations with neighbouring countries".
Krishna said that India would not change its national nuclear
doctrine, providing for no use of weapons of mass destruction. However,
the republic will consolidate its minimal arsenal of nuclear containment
due to persisting threats and challenges to Indian security.
