Six more killed in Karachi firing incidents

KARACHI, March 16, 2011 (PPI): Six more people were killed in incidents of target killing and violence in separate parts of metropolis on Wednesday. Two torture-marked and bullet-riddled bodies were found from Nishtar Road within the limits of Nippier police station.

The victims later identified as 26-year-old Amjad Baloch son of Pir Mohammad and Rashid, 29, son of Saleem Baloch. Both were residents of Eido Lane Chakiwara.

Police said the victims received multiple bullets, adding several torture marks were also present on the bodies which showed that they were kidnapped before being shot dead.

The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for postmortem.

Police said both victims belonged from Ghaffar Zikri group of Lyari Gang War. Amjad was the close aide of Ghaffar Zikri, adding he was suspected in several criminal cases.

Later, the police handed over their bodies to the heirs. No case was registered till filing the report.

In another incident an activist of Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi(MQM-H) was shot dead at Karimabad Bridge in the limits of Gulberg police station.

Police said that Shamim Qureshi, 30 son of Saleem Qureshi, resident of Sector 11-D North Karachi was targeted at Karimabad Bridge, while he was going home in a rickshaw bearing registration No KCR-31106. The police said that as he reached the Karimabad Bridge two armed men riding motorcycle sprayed him with bullets on him. Resultantly he received two bullets and died on the spot.

Police shifted the body Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

Police said victim was the activist of MQM-H and belongs to Bhola Qureshi group. He had also links with Lyari gangsters, besides a criminal record. Later, the body was handed over to the heirs. No case was registered till filing the report.

In yet another incident a general store owner was shot dead near truck stand Maripur in the jurisdiction of Maripur police station.


The victim, 32-year-old Mohammad Rafique was standing outside his general store situated near Maripur Truck Stand, when unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate firing on him. Resultantly, he sustained bullet injuries. He was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police said victim used to live in upper portion of his shop, adding that he originally hailed from Dera Ismail Khan. They said personal enmity might be behind the incident.

Similarly, a young man was shot dead in front of his house near Civil Hospital Karachi in the precincts of Eidgah police station.

The victim, 26-year-old Gulzar son of Gulfam was sitting outside his home, when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on him. Resultantly he sustained bullet injuries. Police shifted him to CHK where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

SP Qamar Raza Jisqani said personal enmity might behind the incident because victim had no affiliation with any political party and he had no criminal record.

Separately, a decomposed body of young man was found within the limits of Sachal police station. The victim seemed to be a car mechanic from appearance. The body was found from a garage situated at the Post Office Society.

Police informed that four day earlier, two people Shahid and Ali were killed in the incidents of target killing and following the incident, the area shops were closed.

Police added that area people informed police about foul stink coming from a garage and when the police entered the garage after breaking door they found a four day old body. It was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem.

The identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. Later the body was moved to Edhi Morgue.
