Whales stranded at Bruny Island
SYDNEY (AAP) - March 17 - A pod of about 30 whales have become stranded at Bruny Island, south of Hobart, wildlife authorities say.
The Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment said a team of wildlife biologists and rescuers would travel to the remote island.
"Preliminary reports indicate around 30 whales have stranded with some believed to be still alive," a statement from the department said.
"Initial reports indicate they are pilot whales.
The department said a ranger and staff from a local fish farm were helping to keep the whales alive.
