Off-season cold spell hits Thailand

CHIANG MAI, March 17 (TNA) - An off-season cold streak has hit Thailand, as temperatures plummeted below 15 degrees Celsius in some areas on Thursday due to extended rainfalls in the North and Northeast.
The Meteorological Department in Chiang Mai Province updated its weather forecast, citing sporadic rainfall across some 60 per cent of the northern city Thursday morning, with temperatures dropping to just 14.9 degrees Celsius.
Similar conditions were reported in the northeastern Nong Bua Lumpu Province, where thick clouds and rain pulled down temperatures to a low 14.7 degrees Celsius at 7am, dropping some three degrees from Wednesday morning, despite a sizzling weather two days ago.
Nong Bua Lumpu Governor Winai Buapradit said he has ordered the local disaster prevention and mitigation office to monitor for weather fluctuations and to prepare any relief support that may be needed--after local villagers were seen warming themselves around bonfires. (TNA)
