Government to evacuate Thai people from Bahrain
BANGKOK, March 17 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Thursday that it is ready to evacuate more than 3,300 Thai nationals from Bahrain if ongoing unrest in the Gulf state escalates.
Jetsada Katawethin, Deputy Director-General of the ministry's Department of Information, said that evacuation plans have been prepared after reports that at least five protesters were killed on Wednesday when Bahraini police fired shotguns and tear gas at anti-government protesters.
Jetsada revealed if the situation further worsened, Thai people in Bahrain would be evacuated through Mina Salman or Khalifa Ports, or they would be first evacuated to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates before taking chartered flights to Thailand.
In the meantime, the Thai Embassy in Manama has advised Thai nationals in the Gulf state to stay indoors and to avoid approaching protest sites. (TNA)
