Japan thanks Thai people

BANGKOK, March 17 (TNA) - Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Seiji Kojima has expressed his gratitude to Thai people, on behalf of people in Japan, for their assistance in the wake of a deadly earthquake and tsunami which hit Japan's northeastern region last Friday.
In an exclusive interview with Thai News Agency (TNA) on March 16, Ambassador Kojima said that Japan was also grateful for Thailand’s King Bhumibol, Queen Sirikit and other members of the Royal Family for extending condolences and donating for the quake and tsunami victims.
Ambassador Kojima acknowledged that the massive earthquake occurred in such a high 9.0-magnitude triggering subsequent tsunami which then ravaged affected areas in about 10 minutes, therefore, it was impossible to evacuate people.
The Japanese top envoy gave assurance that the Japanese government has been pulling all-out efforts to solve emerging problems in the wake of the country's worst natural disaster after WWII, including radiation leaks from the Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant, saying that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United States have also provided assistance to ease the crisis.
The Japanese ambassador noted that the natural catastrophe, on the other side, has shown generosity from sympathetic Thais and unforgettable strong spirit of Japanese fellow countrymen. (TNA)
