Japan consul in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk thanks Russians for support
YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, March 17 (Itar-Tass) - Consul General of Japan in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Koike Takayuki thanked the Russians for words of support and condolences over the tragic events that occurred in Japan.
"Sakhalin residents have been expressing their condolences to me all the time. Recently, dozens of representatives of official and
non-governmental organisations, individuals, laid flowers in memory of the victims and survivors of the devastating earthquake and ensuing tsunami.
The Japanese have a saying, similar to the Russian: "a friend in need is a friend indeed." I heartily thank the Russians, the people of the closest to Japan country, for their compassion," said the consul general.
The Japanese Consulate General "highly appreciates the assistance of Sberbank of Russia that opened an account for donations and reports that an account in VTB 24 Bank to make charitable donations to help victims of Japan's earthquake will also be opened in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the press service of the diplomatic agency said.
