Iran proposes Islamic world contact group
TEHRAN, March 17 (MNA) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Mahdi Akhoundzadeh has proposed the formation of a contact group within the Organization of Islamic Conference to help resolve the issues facing the Islamic world.
In a meeting with the OIC member states’ ambassadors in Geneva, Akhoundzadeh said that the Islamic countries are currently faced with a number of major issues including the violation of Palestinians’ rights, violent suppression of Islamic nations’ peaceful uprisings, economic problems, and terrorism.
“A contact group within the OIC should be established to examine and settle the problems and challenges facing the Islamic countries,” he explained.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he announced that a conference on terrorism will be held in Tehran in the coming months.
