DETAINEES' OUTFIT MUST BE APPROVED BY CORRECT BODY: DPR ETHICS COUNCIL

Jakarta, Aug 24 (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR)'s Ethics Council (BK), Gayus Lumbuun, said that the use of uniforms for corruption suspects must get approval from the authorized institution in order not to create a new legal problem.

"The institution which is handling the case of a suspect may not be given the right to approve the uniforms. The most appropriate institution to approve the use of the uniforms is the Ministry of Legal and Human Rights Affairs (Depkumham)," Lumbuun told ANTARA on Sunday.

Lumbun, who is also a member of the DPR's Legal and Legislation Affairs Commission of the Democratic Party of Struggle Faction (F-PDIP), said the use of the uniforms could create a new legal problem if the mechanism involved was not clear and illegitimate.

"All must be based on the rules, including on the Criminal Code (KUHP). If need be, a revision to include the matter must also be made in order to prevent the emergence of a new legal problem," he said.

Yet, Lumbuun said he appreciated the idea to oblige corruption suspects to wear uniforms.

"Wearing the uniform is expected make the suspect ashamed to have a lesson," he added.
