SIALKOT, March 16, 2011 (PPI): The launching ceremony of book History of Football Industry and Pakistan's contribution, written by a local leading exporter Muhammad Iqbal Sandal was held at his factory here Wednesday.

The Ambassador of Brazil in Pakistan Mr. Alfredo Leoni was the chief guest of the ceremony. While, a large number of people including exporters, industrialists, traders, leading people from travel trade and senior journalists also attended the ceremony.

Addressing the participants, author of the book Muhammad Iqbal Sandal disclosed that the book also contains the ups and downs of Sialkot's football industry, besides, unfolding the suggestions for flourishing Pakistan's football industry.

Author was of the view that the indigenous football industry of Sialkot- Pakistan has a promising business ahead. He revealed that Specialization of Pak Football Industry is based on hand-stitching, however, which carries its own importance. On each football specifically Made by Hand stamp is affixed on the instructions of the foreign buyers, because in Europe and America as elsewhere in the world, a product made by hand is considered much more valuable than a machine product. Side by side another stamp Made in Pakistan is placed which gives an added value to the ball.

He said there has been a great pick up in the demand of hand-stitched footballs in the past months, despite the worldwide recession. We expect this demand to hike further in future as the performance of mechanised ball played in the World Cup games has not been good. Major football playing nations had already expressed their dissatisfaction with the machine made ball and the players have also shown signs of resentment.

According to an estimate, the world requirement of hand stitched footballs is between 45 to 50 million of which 90 percent was being met by Sialkot based industries, whereas the demand of machine made balls is well over double this quantity and it is fast growing.

Hopefully both the positions will be enjoyed by our industry, in the near future, he added.

During his speech, Ambassador of Brazil in Pakistan Mr. Alfredo Leoni hailed the efforts of the author for compiling the history football industry and termed it a marvelous job. He said that there were bright opportunities of setting up joint ventures with Sialkot-Pakistan business community in different trade fields, as the several Brazilian companies were showing keen interest.
