ELTR project:1st meeting of National committee on English held at HEC
ISLAMABAD, March 16, 2011 (PPI): The first meeting of the National Committee on English (NCE) was held at Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad under Phase-II of English Language Teaching Reforms (ELTR) project of the Learning Innovation Division. The main purpose of the meeting was to address ELTR areas and put recommendations for smooth and proper functioning.
The committee members from all over Pakistan shared their expertise and knowledge for improving quality of English language in the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The meeting discussed different issues relevant to the development of English Language Teaching in HEIs and suggested implementation strategies of the ELTR Project (Phase-II).
The NCE put forward the recommendations for technical and professional grooming of English language faculty of colleges across Pakistan. The committee also recommended enlarging the radius of the project in terms of bridging the gap of Language and Literature teaching faculty.
HEC's ELTR Project was launched on the recommendations of NCE in July 2004 to bring qualitative improvement in English Language Teaching and Learning.
Dr. Saeeda Asadullah, Vice Chancellor, Fatima Jinnah Women University presided over the meeting as NCE Chairperson. Dr. Syed Mehmood Raza, Adviser, Quality Assurance and Learning Innovation, HEC and Ms. Noor Amna Malik, Director General, Learning Innovation, HEC were also present on the occasion.
