Mumtaz Bhutto says PPP-MQM patch-up expected, calls for caretaker govt. under Supreme Court

Karachi, March 16, 2011 (PPI): Chairman, Sindh National Front, Mumtaz Ali Bhutto said on Wednesday that the MQM patch-up with PPP was expected and brings no surprises. “The playing hard to get act was, as before, designed to knock some more benefits from the stumbling and weak Zardari government. However, this does not in any way solve any of the multitudes of acute difficulties being endured by the people, which have now crossed all boundaries of tolerance and patience,” he said while talking to party workers at his residence in Karachi, according to SNF release.

“The people are now actually on the streets and there are 25 - 30 demonstrations and protests throughout the nation every day, which can easily take the form of Arab-style revolutions. It has been the practice of the MQM since its creation in the Zia days to become part of every government and resort to tactics designed to acquire more and more benefits. However, the urgent need today is to get rid of ‘Zardari rule’, which has systematically become intolerable since within a few months of its inception,” he contended.

“Of course, this issue is the main topic of debate at all venues and there are various opinions, but the most desirable and workable solution could be to allow the Supreme Court to install a new caretaker government of non-political professionals who should at once act against corruption, lawlessness and the shattered economy, while under the scrutiny of the Supreme Court they should set up a totally impartial Election Commission which, in turn, should get down to the task of compiling new and honest voters lists, break down the tailor-made constituencies and demarcate non-controversial ones and hold elections within a year from which all those who have been ministers and members of central as well as provincial governments should be completely barred and subjected to merciless accountability to not only recover stolen public wealth, but also to award exemplary punishments to the culprits.”

Mumtaz Bhutto said the derailed train of politics and governance in this country will never come back on track unless the political mindset of the nation is cleaned with a fresh infusion of politics based on ideologies, principles, honesty and steadfast commitment to the people. “The need for this is extremely urgent because ‘Zardari rule’ has now become a serious pain for the nation.
