Increase in electricity tariff flayed



Karachi, March 16, 2011 (PPI): Ex parliamentarians and leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Muzaffar Ahmed Hashmi, Laique Khan, Nasrullah Khan Shaji and Yunus Barai showed deep concern and vehemently condemned the increase in electricity tariff by 2 percent per unit from 1st May 2010.

They said that government is raising electricity tariff almost every month, adding rise in power tariff would ruin the economy and aggravate poverty and joblessness.

They asked the government to take notice of the situation and rein in the anti-public steps of private owners of KESC. He said that fresh increase in power tariff is tantamount to economic massacre the poor masses.

They said that millions of people have already been deprived from two square meals due to the oppressive economic policies of the rulers. They said that surge in electricity prices would lead the massive closure of the industries.

Meanwhile, President Human Rights Network (HRN) Karachi Chapter Intikhab Alam Soori also lambasted the rise in power tariff and termed it yet another anti-people act of rulers.

He said poverty, inflation and starvation are on the rise in Pakistan due excessive rates of electricity.

He said prices of daily use commodities are touching the sky. He said the latest hiker in electricity prices would prove the last straw of the back of camel.

He said the people of Pakistani would have to take streets if they want get rid of this prevailing cruel situation. He said that time is not far when rulers would be swept away by the flood of massive protests.
