AMBASSADORS PRESENT CREDENTIALS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The President Ts.Elbegdorj accepted Wednesday letters of credence from Mr. Alisher Salakhitdinov, the ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan; Attilio Massimo Iannucci--of the Italian Republic; Datuk Iskandar Bin Sarudin--of Malaysia; and Marcus Ederer--of the European Union (EU) to Mongolia.
After this the State Head received the ambassadors to discuss with them the relations and cooperation matters.
He recalled exchanging views with Uzbekistan's President Islam Karimov on widening Mongolia-Uzbekistan relations and cooperation during a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Tashkent. Mentioning that Mongolia and Uzbekistan have historical ties, Ts.Elbegdorj has said it is important to study the history of the countries, exchange scholars and to deepen the cultural ties. He has expressed a hope the Uzbekistani President will visit Mongolia this year.
At the meeting held with the Italian ambassador, the President expressed a willingness to boost the cooperation with this country in food, agriculture, tourism, arts and culture, and thanked the Italian side for an affirmation of his visit to Italy. The Italian ambassador Mr. Attilio has expressed a confidence this visit will significantly contribute to forwarding of the bilateral relations and cooperation.
The President has underlined that Mongolia wants to develop the ties with Malaysia. “Our countries have an obstacle in forwarding the relations. The state and people of Mongolia really want to fairly tackle the case of murdering Sh. Altantuya in a short time in accordance with the law,” the President has told the Malaysian ambassador. The diplomatic relations were established between the two countries in September 8, 1971. The Malaysian side has made investments of USD 1.8 million so far in the sectors of mining, geology, industry of construction materials, energy, trade, public catering, banking and financing.
Talking to Mr. Marcus Ederer, the President mentioned that the EU is reflected in the priorities of Mongolia's foreign policy and has been one of the Third Neighbor of Mongolia. He has emphasized an importance of establishing a partnership and cooperation contract between the sides. The President has forwarded a proposal to activate the collaboration in drilling the European standards into Mongolia and in the educational sphere, especially in vocational training.
Since 1990, investments of USD 199.2 million from 596 entities of the EU countries have been registered in Mongolia. Of them, the Great Britain has invested USD 50.6 million, Bulgaria--USD 30.8 million, Germany--USD 26.7 million, France--USD 15.5 million, Italy--USD 14-7 million, Portugal--USD 13.5 million, the Netherlands--USD 11.3 million, Luxembourg--USD 8.9 million, Cyprus--USD 7.6 million, Czech Republic--USD 6.3 million, and Belgium--USD 5.1 million.
