Qld election a real battle, says LNP boss

Queensland's opposition Liberal National Party (LNP) must lift its game before a state election due in early 2012, president Bruce McIver says.
Mr McIver said parliamentary leader John-Paul Langbroek will lead the party into the election, but "him and I and all of us have got to lift our game".
Mr McIver said late in 2010 the LNP thought it would enjoy an easy ride into government due to Premier Anna Bligh's low poll ratings, but she had turned this around as Queensland was hit by floods and Cyclone Yasi.
He said Ms Bligh's abilities as "a very good reporter" during the crises had changed perceptions of her, making the next election a real fight.
"It is far from easy, it's on a knife edge and we have to make sure we do not stumble," Mr McIver told Channel 10.
He said the LNP is ready for an early election, despite assurances from the premier that she will run a full term.
