Thorpe reveals new coach Touretski
Five-time Olympic champion Ian Thorpe has announced his new coach will be former Australian Institute of Sport mentor Gennadi Touretski.
Thorpe has finalised his coaching set-up ahead of next year's London Olympics, revealing on Wednesday he will link up with the Russian-born Touretski in Switzerland.
Thorpe, who has been mentored by Swimming Australia head coach Leigh Nugent since he began his return to swimming in October, will train under Touretski in Tenero for the majority of the year, as well as returning to Abu Dhabi and Australia for specific camps and blocks of training.
Touretski was at the AIS for 10 years from 1992 and coached world record-holders and Olympians Alex Popov and Michael Klim as well as working with the likes of Matt Dunn and Petria Thomas.
Coaching swimmers to more than 40 world records throughout his career, the 61-year-old is currently the head coach at the National Training Centre in Switzerland and is looking forward to working with Thorpe.
"When I first heard about Ian returning to swimming I was pleased for him and I was also pleased for Australian swimming," Touretski said.
