Eight Thai medical students escape from Japan's disaster

BANGKOK, March 16 (TNA) - More Thais have arrived home from Japan, none feeling more relieved than eight Siriraj medical students who just escaped from a worst natural disaster last Friday.

Hundreds of Thais, including Thai students and tourists, continued to arrive at Thailand's Suvarnabhumi International Airport from Japan on Tuesday night. The arrivals were delighted to get back home with a warm welcome by their relatives and friends, after having to take several flights to get back from Japan's Narita International Airport.

Among those arrivals was a third-year Siriraj medical student, Wasit Chatmaitree, who was lucky to escape the disaster unscathed. He said he and seven other friends had traveled to Japan on March 9 and they were in Tokyo when the devastating earthquake rocked the country.

He said he became terribly frightened when he learned of what happened in the Japanese city of Sendai as he had been planning to go there on a one-day ski trip just the next day. (TNA)
