Thai royalty extends assistance to Japan

BANGKOK, March 16 (TNA) - His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm of Thailand have donated blankets to disaster victims in Japan.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and his consort, Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm, had AM Phakdee Saengchuto, deputy chief of the Prince’s secretariat, donate 20,000 blankets on their behalf to earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan. Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya received the blankets at a ceremony in Bangkok on Wednesday--attended by Seiji Kojima, the Japanese ambassador to Thailand.
The Japanese ambassador expressed his gratitude to all the Thai people providing support to Japan. He also expressed his appreciation to Their Majesties the King and Queen of Thailand for extending their condolences and to the Thai royalty, generally, for delivering help.
The Thai Foreign Minister said that the Thai embassy in Tokyo is ready to bring Thais who want to leave Japan to Thailand. He noted that it was difficult to collate the number of affected Thai people because communications remained broken down in some areas. Regarding help for Japan, the minister said that Thailand would donate necessities and assist in the country's rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, Thai Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha said that the Royal Thai Army is ready to deploy search dogs once Japan sends the request. The Royal Thai Army has also extended its condolences to the Japanese Army and has provided them with its own donation.
General Prayuth also praised Japan and its people for showing discipline and a systematic work ethic. Despite the great damage done to the nation, the Thai army chief noted, Japanese people have upheld the necessary level of orderliness and honour for each other, which has been apparent in the manner that they form queues to receive assistance. The Thai army commander-in-chief considers this should be a good example for other countries to follow. (TNA)
