Gilani should come up with a clear vision on Saraiki Province, Durrani

Bahawalpur, March 15, 2011 (PPI): Chief of Muttahida Mohaz Bahawalpur Senator Mohammad Ali Durrani came hard on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani for what he said ‘making mockery’ of the issue of Saraiki Province without announcing particular boundaries as well as any timeframe.

In his press statement issued here Tuesday, Senator Durrani said rather than coming up with a specific announcement on the public demand for new provinces, the premier made another promise to the already deprived people of the most neglected areas of the Punjab.

“Gilani should come up with a clear vision on Saraiki Province within next 48 hours and should also announce the territorial boundaries of the Saraiki province. If he tried to compromise the longstanding demand of revival of Bahawalpur Province with Saraiki Province he should be ready to face the public wrath.

“In such a case, the people of Bahawalpur Province would hold a Million March from Sadiq Garh Palace headed by Nawab Salahuddin Abbasi and this peoples’ rebellion would wipe away all conspiracies against the revival of Bahawalpur Province,” he added.

He said the government should have announced the revival of Bahawalpur Province even prior to the announcement of provincial status to Gilgit Baltistan as it was a legitimate demand and was based on the state commitments to the people and ruler of the Bahawalpur state.

“The people of Bahawalpur are no more ready to provide their lands as a hunting ground for the ruling elites from Multan or Lahore. The voice for the revival of Bahawalpur province was raised at the parliament by me and I also had raised the voice for creation of a separate province comprising Multan, DG Khan and Layyah,” he added. He reminded the prime minister of his commitment of revival of Bahawalpur Province made at public gatherings held for the election campaign of by-election of NA 184 and asked why he had forgotten his commitment.
